肖恩·康诺利是珊瑚礁生态系统动力学ARC珊瑚礁卓越研究中心Sean将数学和统计建模与野外工作和实验室实验相结合，研究了生态生理学、种群动力学、物种相互作用和生物多样性以及宏观进化等所有尺度的生物周转动力学。

1999年，他获得了美国加州斯坦福大学的博士学位，以研究岩石海岸的生态学。1999-2000年，他在美国亚利桑那大学做博士后研究员，在那里研究了化石记录中海洋生物多样性的全球动态。2000年，Sean来到JCU，开发并领导了一个应用于珊瑚礁的生态模型研究和培训项目。他在国际领先期刊上发表了100篇论文，其中5篇论文发表在科学或自然，自二一年起，他已辅导38名研究生及荣誉学生。
